2007 Klindt Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir

Price: $32.00

The Klindt vineyard was planted in 1998 and is now fully mature, producing fruit that expresses the unique terroir of Anderson Valley.  It is located on a steep, south facing slope which provides good drainage and sun exposure.  Our Estate vineyard is composed of 6 different clones of Pinot Noir.  The largest block is Pommard 4 and 5 which provide the deep cherry and berry flavors that form the core of the wine.  667 and 777 provide high fruit tones as well as chocolate and tobacco.  The 115 provides more bright cherry fruit, spice and cola.  Finally, the 113 adds tannin and structure that ties the whole package together.  Every year we pick and ferment separately each of these clones and age them for 8 months.  At that time an initial blend is made from these lots and returned to the barrels for an additional 8-10 months.

2007 was an ideal year for our vineyard.  The crop was small, but the small clusters resulted in a concentrated, full bodied offering.  The wine has red fruit flavors of raspberry and cherry along with spice and cola, all of which our vineyard is noted for, along with good acid to provide brightness.  Aged in 25% new French barrels, it has a touch of oak to round out the flavors.  One of our best vintages in years!

2007 Claudia Springs Estate Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
14.4% alc., pH 3.59, 372 cases, $28. To be released in the
winter of 2010. Klindt Vineyard is at the extreme western end
of the Anderson Valley. Planted in 1998 in heavy clay loam
over fractured rock and consisting of 8.5 acres of Pinot Noir
and 2 acres of Pinot Gris. 35% Pommard clones 4 and 5, 20%
each Dijon clone 115 and 113, and small amounts of 667 and 777. Aged in
25% new French oak barrels. Winemaker Bob Klindt. Moderate garnet color in
the glass. Very charming cherry blossom fruit perfume with brown spice.
Bright and juicy cherry bombast with gossamer tannins and admirable
persistence on the finish. An impressively crafted and seductive wine,
possessing a perfect balance of ripe fruit, vital acidity and refined tannins. Unbelievable quality at this price
point. The best Pinot Noir I have every sampled from this top end Anderson Valley producer.
